The Last Ten Days and Nights of Ramadan

Last Ten Days and Nights of Ramadan

Ramadan is the honorable, blessed and greatest month of the Islamic Calendar, its days and nights are the sweetest days and nights. The True and righteous believer rebuke Ramadan because of its visit and the length of its absence, for it comes after much longing and makes amends after its departure. Moreover, Almighty Allah mends hearts with the coming of this honourable and noblest guest. He forgives sins of His slaves with its visit, and covers up faults whit its arrival.

Even though this whole month is the month of worshipping Almighty Allah, yet its last ten days and nights have their own virtues and more essence than the other days and nights of this great month. These days and nights are very special, similarly there is Lailat-ul-Qadr (Night of Decree) in the odd nights of these nights, which one should seek earnestly and get the great and an immense reward of this night. This night is better than a thousand months (i.e. worshipping Almighty Allah). Which is equal to 83 years and 4 months). It means this night is better than the lifespan of anyone of us. Performing Qiyam (night prayer) in it has the great virtue and reward, as the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:

“Whoever offered night prayer in the night of Decree out of sincere Faith and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven” (Al-Bukari and Muslim)

This night has many other virtues too, such as the revelation of the Holy Quran and it is the blessed night in which all matter are decreed. So this is great opportunity to seek this night and get its benefits and not to be of those who deprived of its good, about which the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:

“Whoever is deprived of its good, then he is surely deprived”

The Prophet (peace be upon him) has distinguished this last one third of Ramadan with the different kinds of obedience. The Prophet (peace be upon him) used to struggle and strive more in these days and nights more than any other time. Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said:

“Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) used to exert himself in devotion during the last ten nights to a great extent than at any other time.” (Muslim)
